Our skin really acts differently in the winter months, so here are some winter skin care tips to keep your skin healthy in this cold New England weather.
Sunscreen- always. The sun (when it’s out) reflects off snow.
Cover your face in the extreme cold. Wow -in those very low temperatures we had last week, my face actually hurt in the cold and wind. Permanently dilated capillaries (threadlike veins below the surface of the skin that are permanent) can occur with extreme changes of temperature.
It really feels great to soak in a hot bath in the winter but intense heat can break down the skin’s lipid barrier and moisture can leak out. Instead take warm showers and baths.
After showering, blot the excess moisture off the skin. Don’t rub. And use a body lotion or cream while your skin is still damp.
Use a nice mild cleanser or soap when taking showers or baths. Don’t use harsh soap or antibacterial soaps.
Moisturize your hands after every washing. Keep the hand lotion right on your sink to remind yourself to use it right away.
Hand sanitizer contains alcohol so look for something that contains aloe or lotion combined which will help offset the drying effect of hand sanitizer.
Avoid over exfoliating skin. On the face and body.
Protect hands and feet from dry rough skin. Wear gloves, mittens and apply hand lotion before going out in the cold. Moisturize those dry heels and wear socks to bed to lock in the moisture.
Moisturize, Moisturize that face. Osmosis has a new moisture line to soon hit the Afterglow shelves!

Stay Warm!
