Haven’t come in for your regular facial or treatment? Is your skin not looking that great now that Summers over? Looking kind of dull or ashy? Leftover tan? Some new lines? Lost that brightness to your skin?
We all look forward to the sun, warmth, beaches and vacations of summer, but maybe we don’t realize how much of a toll summer really takes on our skin right?
Were you swimming a lot in a chlorinated pool or swimming in the ocean? The toxic properties of Chlorine or salt water dry the skin tremendously leaving our skin parched by damaging the proteins in our skin and messing up our skin’s barrier. Also, when you have this extreme drying effect of chlorine it also causes the skin to produce more oil which can cause breakouts and acne.
Sweating in the heat and humidity and your skin producing more sebum (oil) and bacteria clogs pores and causes acne. Sunscreens are often overly oily and skin can “suffocate” from dead skin cells and clogged pores causing acne.
Friction, high temperatures and higher activity causes sweating, which while saying in that clothing causes a much higher rate of body acne like back or butt acne, which rises significantly in the Summer months. Heat rash and chafing is caused by heat and friction of clothing on the skin.
Dull skin can be caused by water resistant or a high SPF sunscreen or sunblock that hasn’t been exfoliated or cleansed off properly.
And, of course, you know that I’m going to mention the sun. Sun spots, tanned skin and pigmentation have shown up on your skin. If you’ve had Melasma, it has darkened from being in the Sun. Which means that your skin is damaged. Also, continued exposure to the Sun can cause blood vessels to rise and break on the surface of our skin no matter what your age. And, as I mentioned before aging and damage from the Sun can show up in as little as 3 months on your skin.
Cold sores, show up more in the summer because they are triggered by the Sun.
And, as I mentioned before, if you haven’t been in for some kind of facial or treatment all Summer, we have to start all over again from square one because if you remember the best way to care for your skin is to come in regularly every 4-5 weeks. Because anything after that is not going to continue the benefits of skin treatments. It’s cumulative. And as far as skin care in a salon..it counts as 40% towards your skincare goals and your home care counts as 60%. So, if you’ve skipped regular appointments you’ve set yourself back that way also.
Well, it’s time to take yourself in hand and do something about all this, right? It is time. Make an appointment, come in and let’s get your skin on track and back in shape again.
