Its time for a Spring cleaning of your skin. The Winter is finally over. Is it time to take some action with your skin? Been neglecting it? Spring cleaning is not just for your house!
I’m sure you have a buildup of dead skin cells, your skin is dull and you need to have those blackheads extracted. After a whole winter virtually inside the house or facing the cold outside, it’s time. And how about your homecare? Are you still using the same products you’ve been using all winter?
So this is what you do. You make an appointment for the best facial, the Custom Facial at Afterglow in Providence RI. Pack up your winter skin care products and bring them in with you to your appointment. I will do your Custom Facial, which will be totally customized to your skin’s condition as it is when you walk into Afterglow that day. After that we can look at the products you are currently using at home, and decide whether to keep on using that product or whether it should be replaced for Spring and Summer. Skin can change with the seasons and your homecare products should change too. Moisturizers and cleansers may get lighter, and we’ll be using more sunscreen and sunblock.
Anither thing to look at would be expiration dates on your cleansers and moisturizers and your makeup. Yes, makeup has an expiration date and it’s a good idea to not keep it longer than you should, because it can build up harmful germs and bacteria. So, really how long have you been keeping these products in a cupboard or closet thinking that you are going to use them again at some point? Below is a list of length to time you should have makeup and skincare and when you should throw it out.
Skin creams and Moisturizers – 1 year
Eye creams and Sunscreen – 1 year
Cleansers – 1 year
Mascara – 2-3 months
Lipstick – 2 years
Blush – 2 years
Liquid foundation – 6 months to 1 year
Eye shadow – 2 years
Powder Foundation – 2 years
Concealer – 1 year
Liquid Eyeliner – 6 months
Powders and Bronzers – 2 years
Shampoo and Conditioner – 1-2 years opened, 3 years unopened
Loofas – 3 weeks

Something I won’t forget. A couple of years ago I was freelancing doing makeup on a woman and we were talking about the makeup she had at home that she used. She didn’t wear makeup often but really wanted to start using it more. She also told me she had the same blush she used for her wedding. I asked how long she was married, was a little afraid to hear her answer but, She told me. 13 years! I’m not kidding you! I told her when you go home- throw it away!!
Hopefully this will help you to make a decision to come in, get your Custom Facial And take a new look at some skincare products appropriate for your skin for the next few months.
