As Estheticians we use masks in our facials and they are usually one of the last things we do in a facial. I usually use 2 masks in my facials. And when I was a teen I would buy a peel off mask or that inexpensive green creamy mask in the huge tub. Believe it or not that mask is still used in some schools. Masks treat a certain skin type or condition of the skin. They can come in cream forms, gels or powders that you can mix with a liquid to make a mask. Masks have been used since ancient times because of the skin benefiting properties. Cleopatra has been said to sleep with a mask made of gold or white clay. Current masks can be used for acne, hydration of skin, lightening and tightening of skin, lifting, toning, rejuvenating, treatment of brown spots (pigmentation) rosacea and much more. There are masks for a myriad of skincare conditions.
Well, besides using a mask in the facial treatment room, it’s becoming ever so popular to mask at home too. Am I talking about masks you can make at home with fruits and vegetables? Not really. Fruits and vegetables don’t have molecules small enough or a delivery system to penetrate skin. I’m talking about a professional grade mask.
Masking has become an essential skin care step at home. It nourishes and refines, hydrated skin. I know some are saying to mask every day and if you can do that- that’s great. But if you can’t do every day do it at least once a week. It’s great to do something to your skin in between facials. I’m aplways giving facials and treatments to clients and often find it hard to find time or sometimes to think about doing them on myself. So I just decided to do a SelfCare/Skincare Sunday for me. It’s the best day for me to put on a mask, enjoy the benefits of that mask and relax without worrying that I have to rush out to work . (That’s me in the picture with a mask on). So, give masking at home a try. You’ll love the benefits to your skin! I have a couple of great masks to purchase at Afterglow that will be great for home use.
