You know, the ones that make you think they are Estheticians, and have in depth knowledge of clinical skincare? Well, guess what? They aren’t Estheticians.
The only knowledge most of them have is what has been given to them from the company they work for to recommend to the consumer. They have a book, or cards stating for example..the customer has a little oiliness on their nose and forehead, this is the cleanser, toner and moisturizer she should be using. Same for dry skin, mature skin, and on and on. These women in the stores may have a little bit of knowledge of skin, but mainly they are trained to sell.
Know that, if you are buying your home care products from the department store, you are paying for fillers, perfumes, packaging, space in the store to sell the products, and advertising. These products are usually made in large batches, contain a very low percentage of active ingredients, sit on top of the skin, which might make your skin feel a little better on the surface BUT..are they delivering results? NO. And, guess what? For that low quality product, you are paying a premium price!
Wouldn’t you rather have someone that cares about your skin, is passionate about what they do, has been educated to specialize in skin care, is licensed as an Esthetician, has taken many advanced classes, has touched and analyzed and treated many faces and skin types, recommend custom skincare for your particular needs, or rather someone who just reads off from a card and sells you what it says on the card? I know which way I would go.
And, what about those who go to these counters who have acne, problem skin? The department store person will just pull out the same products that everyone else with problem skin will get. And, is this counter person touching, examining or treating your skin? NO!
Also, know that skin care bought from an Esthetician, is often containing organic ingredients, actives that will makes changes in your skin, smaller molecules that penetrate into the skin, no fillers, artificial fragrances, and is priced less or equal to that which you buy in a department store? Higher quality. I would.
So, STOP, and really think about the best way to spend your skin care dollars. On a licensed Esthetician, who knows how to treat your skin, recommends skin care products that actually work, or that counter person who’s going to sell you the same cookie cutter skincare everyone else gets?
