REALLY?
Yes, you heard that right. Some clients do that. I will see them Fall, Winter, Spring and then…it’s Summertime. And then, they disappear, I might not see them on my books for 3-4 months.
Why do I think this happens?
1) They don’t want me to see how much they’ve exposed themselves to the sun.
2) They think that overexposing themselves to the sun for a few months is not going to hurt their skin. It is.
3) They are busy vacationing, or at their beach houses.
4) They are tanned, and don’t want me to see that. But I guess this also goes with number 1.
5) Don’t think it’s that important, or see it as a priority in the Summer.
6) Only want to come in if they have a problem with their skin, or its dry, breaks out.
7) They think that the skin care products that they bought will take care of the damage the sun has done.
Look, I’m not the Sunscreen Police, or Sun Police, believe me, but in the past I’ve spent many a day tanning when I was younger..but I know better now. Would I do it again? Um. NO. I’ve been told I have really great skin for my age and I think I do but, I think it would have been even better if I hadn’t.
We all need some sun, that can be agreed upon, but not too much of it. If you look at the signs of aging, such as wrinkles, crepeiness, hyper pigmentation, uneven texture, hypo pigmentation, loss of tone, sagging, guess what it all boils down to? Sun Exposure.
So, what’s the best thing to do?
Use Sunscreen of course. And reapply. Over and over. I do like that bronzed look, but it can be faked very well. A tinted sunscreen for the face or use a bronzer when doing your makeup, Spray tanning, or you can use self tanner on yourself. There are lots of products in the marketplace to do this.
And, yes, the products you are using are great and effective but you are still exposing that skin to the damaging rays, and you still need the addition of some kind of treatments.
Another thing I’d like to address – is this. You’ve been taking care of your skin up until now, spending money on facials micro current , treatments, peels. Have you ever thought that you are setting your skin back by not doing anything to it in the Summer? WELL, YOU ARE!
Consistency is key in this skin game. The more and better you take care of it, the better the results. Do you want to start from Square one again? Or just let it keep getting better and better? I know what my answer is!
Keep coming in for your regular skin care treatments and protect your skin!
Definitely something you want to think about when taking a long break from your skin care regimen. I can turn back the hands of time and sun damage. NO SKIN CARE VACATIONS!
