Its almost that time again, Holidays, cold weather and I really hate to say this but Snow!
so, let me talk about some winter skin care. Winter skin care is just not wearing heavy and warmer clothing to protect our skin. The air is cold, it uses less moisture than in the warmer months, our heat is on and what Happens? Our skin and hair get drier.
So, what can we do to protect and take better care of our skin? Here are some tips.
*Moisturize, moisturize! If you are still using a moisturizer you use in the summer and don’t feel it’s doing its job for the winter, change it. Or, use a Hyaluronic Acid serum or gel such as Ultra Hydro Gel from Glymed, which binds moisture to the skin, and will boost the performance of your moisturizer, or, add night cream.
*Dont over exfoliate.
*Use sunscreen. I’m asked often, why we should use sunscreen in winter. Because the sun is still shining in the winter, and the sun glaring off the snow is still damaging to our skin.
*Wash hands in lukewarm water, and don’t take showers that are too hot. Hot water strips the skin of its lipids. Now this is a personal one for me.
*Protect your hands and feet. After buffing my feet I add a heavy lotion or cream and put on socks before going to bed. Now there are actually moisturizing socks in the store that are available to wear. My hands, which are in water quite a bit are vulnerable to extreme drying in the winter. Treat your hand with creams or lotions and always wear gloves outside.
*Moisturize your legs. Now this is a personal one for me. I don’t really have dry skin but my legs always seem to be dry especially in the winter. They get itchy and flaky. I exfoliate them once a week with a mild sugar scrub containing grape seed oil. And daily I spray my legs with a spray oil, and add lotion on top of that.
